The styling product Maren reaches for on nine cuts out of ten. Kaolin clay gives texture and a dry, natural finish; a little beeswax and lanolin give the hold. It reworks through the day with a wet hand and rinses out with plain water, so there is no build-up in the chair or on your pillow.

The tin is brass-plated steel and refillable at the front desk, which is why the price is what it is.

In the tin

No petrolatum or mineral oil. Scented lightly; the fragrance fades within the hour.

How to use

  1. Start with towel-dried or fully dry hair. Dry hair gives more texture.
  2. Take a fingernail's worth and emulsify it between the palms until it disappears.
  3. Work from back to front, then shape with fingers rather than a comb for a natural finish.
